CAT’s EDI aCATemy is designed to provide organizations education from a best practices implementors perspective.  These educational sessions will teach users how to configure, utilize and implement JD Edwards system 47 and EDI processes.  In this 7-part series we will reveal the various components required to successfully implement JDE/EDI with a focus of maximizing the use and functionality of JDE.  Too often companies develop custom solutions where JDE has the technology already pre-built.  All that is needed to eliminate the majority of EDI enhancements is a little education of what JDE has to offer.

Today’s session Will focus on the set up required to send outbound advanced shipping notices and invoices.  The ASN is typically the most complex EDI transactions or customers require but system 47 can be configured to reduce this complexity.

This session will focus on:

  • Outbound ASN’s
  • Outbound Invoices
  • Lockbox

Our final part of our seven-part sessions or introduced JDE/EDI best practices.  We will educate you on the various JDE set up considerations, how to streamline those and make those repeatable from trading partner to trading partner.  We will have a discussion regarding flat file versus database direct EDI processing.

This session will focus on:

  • What is JDE/EDI best practices and how you can leverage this knowledge
  • What is the JDE set up considerations you must be aware of and how to maximize the efficiency from one transaction set to another
  • Flat file vs. database direct processing

This is the 2nd part of our 7 part education sessions.  In today’s session we will cover the administration side of setting up system 47 and how deeply connected it is to JDE internal process flow.  We start will a basic overview of the maintenance applications used to support system 47.

This session will focus on:

  • Naming Conventions to gain an understanding of the various tables and applications
  • What the inbound and outbound process flows are that are used within the system 47
  • How and why to properly set up customer billing instructions to connect your customers to processing EDI transactions
  • Understanding the various user-defined codes required by system 47
  • Understand and set up EDI tolerance rules. How and why they can be used to streamline EDI order processing.

In this session we are going to take a deep dive into the information required to set up supplier side and customers requested EDI transaction sets.  There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained and used in the EDI mapping process directly from JDE.  Too often we see customers rebuilding the same capabilities that already exist in system 47.

This session will focus on:

  • EDI Information for Suppliers
  • EDI Information for Customers
  • Understanding the flat file conversion process and when it’s best to use that process over database direct integration
  • We will explore the inbound edit update program and how to process inbound data
  • We will review the outbound extra programs and how to perform the update as soon functionality

Session 4 Overview

Today’s session will focus on error handling how to get to the information as quickly and efficiently as possible.  In order to have a successful EDI program the data must be available to the user to translate and process orders.

This session will focus on:

  • Purging and archiving of system 47 data tables
  • How to efficiently work with works in her messages and pinpoint errors coming from translations
  • What are the use cases and pitfalls of revising EDI control information
  • How to revise EDI documents that contain errors and re-process them into the live JDE system

Session 5 Overview

Today’s session one will start to cover inbound and outbound purchase order transactions.  We will take you through the required set up, integration into your overall order process flow and what is required to augment your current order activity rules.  We will discuss how to retain the information from the inbound purchase order to be used in the outbound purchase order of acknowledgement transactions set.

This session will focus on:

  • Inbound PO’s
  • Inbound PO Changes
  • Outbound PO Acknowledgements
